The goal of this section is to get everybody's studies, thoughts, and opinions on anything in the weeks parasha. This includes, word studies, thoughts on verses, history, related subjects, and anything that may help us to understand this Torah Portion. Even if it's just an observation on the smallest part, it can help others who may not have seen it that way. The goal is then as we visit the parasha (Torah Portion) each year we will create a collection of studies and thoughts on this portion and everyone will benefit by having a broader view of the portion. Shalom!

Saved for what?
For Parasha Beshalach
By Lovingneighbor 1-19-2008
This weeks Parasha is in the book of Exodus also called Shemot, and is called Bo which means 'Come'. In this weeks parasha:
- Elohim didn't take Yisra'el straight to the land of the Peleshtim because if they saw war they may return to Egypt
- YHWH went before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night
- YHWH told Moshe to camp by the sea and Pharaoh will come and attack them and he did
- When Pharaoh came Yisra'el cried out to Moshe did you bring us out to kill us and he said be still and see the salvation of YHWH
- YHWH told Moshe to tell the people to go forward and Moshe to lift up his rod over the sea
- A strong East wind divided the waters that night and Yisra'el went accross but Pharaoh's men followed them
- YHWH told Moshe to stretch out his hand over the sea and it came down on Pharaoh's men
- When Yisra'el saw the great work that YHWH did they feared and believed and sang the song of Moshe
- Miryam took a timbrel in her hand and danced with the women singing
- 3 days in they came to Marah and the people complained because the waters were too bitter to drink so Moshe made them sweet
- When they came to Elim all the people complained to Moshe because they were hungry
- YHWH told Moshe he would rain bread from heaven and test the people in how they gathered it
- YHWH brought quail at even and manna in the morning and everyone had as much as they wanted
- Moshe commanded them to take only what they needed for the day but some took extra and it spoiled
- Moshe told them to bake and boil what they needed on the 6th day so they would have what they needed for the sabbath
- Some people went out on the sabbath to gather but YHWH said keep my laws, I have given you double on the 6th day for sabbath
- YHWH commands Moshe aand Aharon to fill a pot with an omer of manna for a memorial to future generations
- Yisra'el complained in Refidim because there was no water to drink
- YHWH told Moshe to strike the rock at Chorev and He will be there and bring water out of the rock
- Amalek made war with Yisra'el and When Moshe held up his arms they won and if not they would lose so they put stones under his arms
- Moshe built an altar and called it YHWH-Nissi because YHWH will have war with Amalek
- Haftarah - D'vorah and Ya'el fought for Yisra'el when many men wouldn't and it was a shame to the men who wouldn't
In this weeks parasha we see a concept of Yisra'el being saved from Par'oh. But my question is for what? I see the same thing in Christianity and the Messianic movement. The whole thing supposedly revolves around being saved. I don't see this same concept in Judaism. I don't see the concepts of forever saved. You may think that is a problem but I do not. See Yisra'el was saved from the biggest threat they had Par'oh and it was a great and glorious salvation. It is even said in this parasha be still and see the yeshua of YHWH though it's first use is in the prophecy of Dan in Gen 49 this word means saved a feminine version of a noun. So they are saved, yeah..... but was that it? Were all their problems over? In this one parasha we see them no different becuase of their salvation. It says they believed in YHWH and Moshe after they were saved but then they went right in to being disobediant. It started with complaining. The complaints were the same before salvation as they were afterwards. That YHWH is not taking care of them. Whether it's food or protection, it seems they are not really satisfied with the salvation they recieved and thought it would just carry over and everything would always be easy and ok. But in this situation as with future situations they are not doing their part. They always blame Moshe or Elohim for what they aren't doing while they consantly don't do what they should every step of the way, They didn't gather manna the way they should have, they weren't patient for His salvation, they weren't satisfied with his provision. They essentially thought they knew better what they needed, they wanted to run the show. But the problem was with them. They were impatient and wanted Elohim to lead them how they wanted to be led. Wives do you ever take this approach with your husbands. Have we ever worked in a job where we thought we knew more than our boss and could do a better job running it. Yes this was the same dynamic going on with Moshe and YHWH. Save your justifications this is their sin and it will probably happen again and yes you have done it. Back to our message.
We justify it and so do they. They wanted to know they had enough manna for the future. They weren't happy having to count on YHWH every day and not knowing if it was going to be there tommorow. This same mentality may have had them thinking water should have been waiting for them and food and where are my mansions in heaven anyway. I don't think it works that way. being saved from Phar'oh was one salvation, but the real salvation they needed was from themselves. They couldn't maintain their situation, they were constantly getting into trouble, it makes you wonder if they thought they were grreat by being chosen by Elohim and I think Moshe's perspective may have been different than theirs. We see this all the time now. People really think they are Elohim's people but yet they are unruly and unrighteous. What were you saved for? See they asked a question of Moshe:
Exo 14:11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
Exo 16:3 And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
Exo 17:3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?
They asked if YHWH if he did the first things only to kill them later. They had the right question but not to YHWH but to themselves. Were you saved only to kill yourself in the wilderness. What is the purpose of Yahushua in your life? Why come out of Egypt to be killd in the wilderness for your rebellion. That is what happened to the people of Elohim who were brought out of Egypt with signs and wonders and that believed on Him and his servant Moshe. Most died in the wilderness because of disobediance. So what was the point of their salvation. They didn't recieve the promises. They were in the worse spot. They were lukewarm. They weren't in Egypt because they beleived in YHWH but they would not obey him and so they wern't allowed into the promised land either. They died in the middle. Rejected by Egypt and YHWH in my opinion, and that was the worst place to be. They died with their salvation. People don't want to hear ut but that is what happened and I think it will happen again. Why spend the time washing the outside if the inside of the cup which is more important is filthy. You know who's salvation was great, Yahushua son of Nun and Kalev. They were saved along with everybody else, but then they obeyed YHWH an entered into the promised land. Why do the Christians preach salvation? Because they are still in Egypt, but the Messianics are still thinking that it's the key answer to everything also and that now it's really all over, but I think that was only a small part and the less important part of the total plan which is to live all of Torah like Mashiach so that we will have the full protection, trust, and provision of YHWH our Elohim. Shalom
Psa 43:3 O send out your light and your truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto your holy hill, and to your tabernacles.
