Tzav Parasha Thoughts, Studies, and Comments
Reply Quote

The goal of this section is to get everybody's studies, thoughts, and opinions on anything in the weeks parasha. This includes, word studies, thoughts on verses, history, related subjects, and anything that may help us to understand this Torah Portion. Even if it's just an observation on the smallest part, it can help others who may not have seen it that way. The goal is then as we visit the parasha (Torah Portion) each year we will create a collection of studies and thoughts on this portion and everyone will benefit by having a broader view of the portion. Shalom!

His Holy Things

For Parasha Tzav

By Lovingneighbor 4-8-2006

This weeks Parasha goes into the Laws for Burnt Offerings, Grain Offerings, Anointing Offering, Trespass Offerings, Sin Offerings, and Peace Offerings. It then finishes with the consecration of the priests. It's pretty straight forward, and some may find it hard to glean understanding from this portion. It's portions like these that get glanced over. Every piece of scripture is profitable for instruction, it's just a matter of whether we will get the message out of the scripture or not.

What I find particularly exciting about this piece of text is that it shows how the priests must handle the sacrifices brought to them. These offerings are for God and the priests act as middlemen. They have a heavy responsibility to those who brought the sacrifice and to God. They are much like the wife of most families. She has a responsibility to her husband, God and her children. No small order and everyone expects their needs to get met. Messiah seemed to work double time also, by serving his Father, and watching over the flock. Imagine the responsibility of having to deal with someone's offering to God. Knowing it has to be done specifically or it won't be accepted. What if after they offered the best of their flocks you messed up and they had to bring another animal. How you treat a persons offering to God is so important. We have all read the verses saying we are to be kings and priest, and how we are to be a kingdom of priest and a holy nation. It's easy to forget Messiah is a high priest and if we indeed are his body we also would then be priests.

How then as we act as priests do we do when people bring us their offerings to God? Say someone has done a study on something and you tear it to shreds. Have you mishandled their offering to God? What if you look with a haughty look at something they found in Torah. To you it may only be 2 turtledoves, but to them it is the best they had. My point is many times we mishandle things people are offering to God by the way we interact with them. By being prideful, haughty, and lifting ourselves above others who think differently or are at different parts of their walk than us. We should encourage them so we don't get in the way of them and God. This is the concept behind edification.

If Messiah is a sacrifice, how then are we responsible to handle his sacrifice. God has specific rules of how we are to handle the things offered to him. God gives detailed instruction on how to handle his holy things. In the same way I believe we are to treat his torah and his son in a specific manner. Just as you would a king, so must we do what is appropriate to our king. For those who would come in contact with his holy things he prescribed a manner in which they must act. In even touching his holy things many times they would be made holy, and if they were defiled and touched his holy things they would be cut off.

If you want to interact with God and His holy things you have to be made holy. The priests were consecrated for seven days so they may serve YHWH. For 7000 years man will be prepared before entering into the kingdom. We are being made holy so we may partake in the holy things of God. These offerings were holy as they were presented to God, and the priests before doing his service were to be made holy. How much more is our necessity to be holy before Messiah returns so that we may be able to serve him and approach the Holy one of Israel. Shalom!

Untrue
For Parasha Tzav
By Lovingneighbor 3-22-2008

This weeks Parasha is in the book of Vayikra also called Leviticus, and is called Tzav which means 'Command'. In this weeks parasha:

- The law of the burnt offering is given
- The priest shall put wood on the altar evening and morning for fire, it shall not go out
- The law of the minkha (grain offering) is given, it shall be Aharon's and his sons forever
- The minkha offering of Aharon and his sons day and night is commanded
- The laws concerning the sin offering is given
- The laws concerning the trespass offering is given
- The laws concerning the peace offering is given
- Any unclean person who eats of the peace offering shall be cut off
- You shall not eat the fat of a beast
- You shall not eat any blood
- The person who offers a peace offering must bring it to YHWH
- The fat of the offering shall be burned and the breast shall be Aharon's and his sons
- The right shoulder shall be a heave offering and it shall be the priests who offered it
- The laws of the burnt offering, minkha, consecration, sin, tresspass, peace offering are given and the priests portions declared
- Moshe brought Aharon and his sons with their offerings and all the people to the door of the tabernacle
- Moshe clothed Aharon in the priestly garments
- Moshe annointed the tabernacle and all therein
- Moshe annointed Aharon
- Moshe clothed Aharon's sons in the priestly garments
- Aharon and his sons killed the sin offering
- Moshe took the blood and sanctified the altar
- Aharon and his sons killed the ram for the burnt offering
- Moshe sprinkled it upon the altar and offered it to YHWH
- Aharon and his sons killed the ram of the consecration
- Moshe put the blood on the right ear, right thumb, and right big toe of Aharon and his sons
- Moshe took an unleavened cake, an oiled cake, and a wafer with the shoulder and put them in the priests hands to be waved
- Then Moshe took them fromt he priests and burnt them on the altar
- Moshe took the breast of the ram of consecration and waved it before YHWH it was his portion
- Moshe sprinkled Aharon and his sons with the annointing oil and blood from the altar and told them to stay at the door 7 days
- YHWH wants obediance from His people and they will not be made right by sacrifice if they are still sinning

In this weeks parasha we get many things given having to do with the offerings and in the end the priests are consecrated. One thing that jumped out to me this year is the very beginning of this portion. The command about the trespass offering. I couldn't understand the difference between a trespass and a sin offering. I looked up the 28 uses of this word for trespass mah'al and they mostly had to do with idolatry or adultery. It seemed to denote that you went outside of the one in authority of you. The root means elevation or to rise above your state, so this made sense.

The next thing was in looking at the contexual mechanics of this word we see it's centered around lying and unjust gain. The word kaw'khash is spelled kaph, chet, shin which could be understood in the ancient Hebrew as allow, divide, test. This has interesting implications on the concept of lies. It seems we are allowed to divide, for a test, and what are dividing, the truth from lies. Even the difference between us and an animal is that the word for animal or beast in the Hebrew means dumb or unable to speak. We can speak and what comes out of our mouths is either truth or lies. This reminds me of the verse that says every idle word will be judged.

So what does this mean when it comes to the tresspass offering. Well the first application we see is that it describes idolatry. Idols are linked in the Torah to being a lie. In a lie there is no life but death. They are earthly and not heavenly and have to breath of life in them.

Isa 44:19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
Isa 44:20 He feeds on ashes: a deceived heart has turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

Hab 2:18 What profits the graven image that the maker thereof has graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusts therein, to make dumb idols?
Hab 2:19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

Adultery is also portrayed as a woman not being true to her husband.

The first use of this word used in the trespass offering lie is used only once before this, It is when Sarah lied about laughing. Lying elevates us to a spot we really aren't. Whether we lie to gain or to cover up, it is a false representation. Like an idol being Elohim or even mighty when it isn't.

Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Rev 22:15 For outside are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loves and makes a lie.

It says in the Torah many places that His peope will not lie and that he does not lie.

Isa 63:7 I will mention the lovingkindnesses of YHWH, and the praises of YHWH, according to all that YHWH has bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Yisra'el, which he has bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.
Isa 63:8 For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Savior.

Compare this to the children of the devil

Joh 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

The last part of this is the people who speak lies about Elohim and His word. I heard today from a nice person who I listen to many phrases about YHWH was doing this because.... or YHWH wanted.... or YHWH says..... People take lightly that even in the attempt to prove their point they are speaking lies about things Elohim never said, or it's their interpretation of His intent. You can't speak for Elohim because He is truth. So when you say the Bible says this or Elohim says this. You better make sure it's a quote and not your opinion or you could be bearing false witness to the truth. This is a big crime and one used by man pastors preachers, and religious leaders and organizations through the years. I think they will have to answer for their lies. Whether intent was good or not, they tried to elevate what they were saying to a higher authority that the fact they were just the words of a man. This is a big sin and will not go unpunished.

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of Elohim is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of Elohim is manifest in them; for Elohim has showed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Elohimhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew Elohim, they glorified Him not as Elohim, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible Elohim into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore Elohim also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of Elohim into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

People think they are doing Elohim's will and helping others, but like the parable of the person with the beam in their own eye trying to help others we see it does no good.

Job 13:4 But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value.

This reminds me of the people who say we cast out demons in your name and did works in your name and he casts them away.

Psa 101:7 He that works deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that tells lies shall not tarry in my sight.

Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defiles, neither whatsoever works abomination, or makes a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

If I had a dollar for everyone who said Elohim told them to do this, or I was called by Elohim to do .... or Elohim wanted me to say... notice it says it was just their feeling.

Jer 14:14 Then YHWH said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spoke unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their heart.

This one is interesting because it says they cause people to err by their lightness. This makes me think of people who lessen the commandments or justify not fully keeping them or as it says in the end of the verse say what burden as if there is no law needed to be kept. This includes those who say in one breathe we don't have to keep the commandments we do it because we are saved. This is false and they think they do not need to keep them and there is no burden they are under.

Jer 23:31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith YHWH, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.
Jer 23:32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith YHWH, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith YHWH.
Jer 23:33 And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask you, saying, What is the burden of YHWH? you shall then say unto them, What burden? I will even forsake you, saith YHWH.

Here agains people speak out of their own imagination and think they are saving souls. Yet they speak lies.

Eze 13:17 Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of your people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy you against them,
Eze 13:18 And say, Thus saith YHWH Elohim; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of my people, and will you save the souls alive that come unto you?
Eze 13:19 And will you pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?
Eze 13:20 Wherefore thus saith YHWH Elohim; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith you there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that you hunt to make them fly.
Eze 13:21 Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and you shall know that I am YHWH.
Eze 13:22 Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:
Eze 13:23 Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and you shall know that I am YHWH.

Here we see more people speaking of their own hearts and saying Elohim said this or teaching their own understanding and saying it is what Elohim says. How many sermons have Iheard where they either don't use more than 2 sentences from the scripture, then go on a 2 hour disertation and funny anticdotes about life and every other thing and claim to wrap it in the scripture as if Elohim said the whole thing.

Eze 22:28 And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith YHWH Elohim, when YHH has not spoken.

This sounds like about every organized religion, notice the trust is in the teachers

Hos 10:13 You have plowed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity; you have eaten the fruit of lies: because you did trust in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.

Handing on lies down to others and their children.

Amo 2:4 Thus saith YHWH; For three transgressions of Yahudah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have despised the law of YHWH, and have not kept His commandments, and their lies caused them to err, after the which their fathers have walked:

The worst part is people don't say something. It's easier to do nothing and be lazy taking the lies of the pastor instead fo studying for yourself.

Isa 59:4 None calleth for justice, nor pleads for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth lawlessness.

So we need to all slow down on the Elohim said.. and the Bible says.. or Elohim called meto .... Worse is following these people and like the false prophets, they will be put to death for lying in his name and saying things that are untrue. We speak way to fast and with authority that isn't given. Let's rightly represent our opinions as just that and not try and state them as fact. There is no need to. Most people I talk to seem to mistake that fact that it's OK to live by what you beleieve but it doesn't make it the truth. This is the concept of humbleness in the word. When the matter of fact guys and the big know it alls talk to me or try and correct me, they aren't impressing me with the knowledge or the this is how everyone has done it, or here is how other liars (I mean men) have always done it. Save it. I listen and weigh each thing to the Torah and don't care how many people beleive a lie or for how long they have believed a lie, it doesn't make it true. Let's all walk humbly in the Torah of Truth and not in the lies of untrue men. Shalom!
