Passover Weekly Sabbath Parasha Thoughts, Studies, and Comments
Reply Quote

The goal of this section is to get everybody's studies, thoughts, and opinions on anything in the weeks parasha. This includes, word studies, thoughts on verses, history, related subjects, and anything that may help us to understand this Torah Portion. Even if it's just an observation on the smallest part, it can help others who may not have seen it that way. The goal is then as we visit the parasha (Torah Portion) each year we will create a collection of studies and thoughts on this portion and everyone will benefit by having a broader view of the portion. Shalom!

New Life

For Passover Parasha

By Lovingneighbor 4-15-2006

This Parasha covers the the conversation of Moshe(Moses) with YHWH(the Lord) about how he will know if he is pleasing Elohim(God), it also covers Moshe seeing his pressence, the regiving of the two tables of stone, the covenant promise, entering into the land promise and commandments, the firstfruits, and the dry bones story of Ezekiel.

Exo 33:13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.

Interesting he says show me "Thy way"

Joh 14:6 Yahushua(Jesus) saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Then he goes onto say that I may know thee

Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work lawlessness.

He essentially is saying show me your spirit, so that I may be joined to it, or show me your son that I may be joined to him. When two become one as in the model of husband and wife new life is created. This paints a beautiful picture of our new life in Messiah.

Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Exo 34:9 And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our lawlessness and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.

Exo 33:16 For how shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

Here a sign of grace is that God is among them. relate this to this verse

Mat 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Moshe asked to see the glory of God:

Exo 33:18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.

Luk 2:26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen YHWH's Mashiach.

Luk 2:27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Yahushua, to do for him after the custom of the law,

Luk 2:28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed Elohim, and said,

Luk 2:29 YHWH, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

Luk 2:30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

Luk 2:31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

Luk 2:32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Yisrael.

So Moshe asked to see "the Way", wanted to know God, and wanted to see his glory. All apear to be pointing to Messiah. He then gave the second set of Commandments on the two tables of Stone. The first time the law was given it was broken so he gave it a second time, written on new tables. Interesting how we recieved the written Torah at Sinai and yet we brake them, and his son comes and teaches them them the spirit of Torah that they would keep it. He also comes a second time to write the law on our inward parts. We are told to write it on the tables of our heart. So was our hard heart of stone the first set of commandments he gave which he said we broke because we didn't have the right spirit yet.

Exo 34:1 And YHWH said unto Moshe, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.

Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:

Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

but then put's the same law a second time on our inward parts or in our hearts(Spirit), thus establishing us in both flesh and spirit. This results in him dwelling with us. The very thing Moshe asked for as a sign of Grace. Rebbelion and sin is opposite this sign of grace:

Exo 34:9 And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our lawlessness and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.

Here going among us and him taking us for his inheritance is the same, and the opposite of this is rebellion and sin that needs to be pardoned so we may draw close and have newness of life. This leads to the last point the dry bones. It is modelled by two things, first is the desolate cities being filled with life (men). Then he asks if these dry bones can live:

Eze 37:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O YHWH Elohim, thou knowest.

Eze 37:5 Thus saith YHWH Elohim unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

Breath or Ruach is another term for spirit in hebrew. So he is saying he will put the spirit into them, and it will cause new life. This spirit is the spirit of Elohim which is the Spirit of Torah.

Eze 37:14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I YHWH have spoken it, and performed it, saith YHWH.

Let's seek after the same thing Moshe did, to know Yahushua our Messiah, and to seek after the Spirit of Torah so that we may know we have the Grace of God and that we may have newness of life and that God may dwell among us. Shalom!
