The Sower

Mat 13:3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

Mar 4:3 Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:

Mat 13:4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

Mar 4:4 And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

Mat 13:23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Mar 4:20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

Luk 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Shalom all,

Soon I will post a more indepth look at how Messiah explains this parable, but one fo the first things to make a note on is how in Mark Messiah says know ye not the Parable of the sower, How then will you know all parables. This is a great piece of information because I believe it is telling us this is the first parable or riddle we must study and figure out. It will then help us to know other parables. So let's meditate on it and I'm eager to see what people have to say about it and what they see here based off the texts. I put the witnesses right nect to each other so we can examine them and compare them. noticing the common things, and noticing the extra information. I will post a study on this parable shortly. First of all, a parable is not a riddle, but a story told in easily understood terms to relate a spiritual truth or truths. It is a metaphor or a simile, not a riddle. Also, Yeshua explains ALL his parables, giving the Remez or Sod understanding. Then he usually gives the D'Rash application. IOW, there is very little left to figure out, save it's personal application to each of us.

You are correct that this is the first parable. It shows the way the stories will all illustrate a truth beyond the common understanding.

He told the talmidim that it was not for everyone to understand the spiritual truths he was teaching, but for those to whom he gives the understanding - those of us who can receive the truth, those who are filled with his Spirit.

The first thing I noticed that was DIFFERENT in one from the rest was the reason the seed that fell on rocky ground withered. Luke tells us it was because it had no moisture. Here is the additionnal info the other 2 left out.

What is the thing that holds moisture in a field? One reason a farmer breaks up the earth and then disks the clods until they are ground to fine earth is so the roots can grow deep to find moisture below the surface. I think the thing to take away from that is that we need to allow Yeshua to break up our fallow ground, work it over until we are soft enough to receive both the seed and the water of the word so that it can take deep root and live through the tough times we'll necessarily go through.

For those of you who are frequenting Eddie's room on PalTalk Sabbath mornings, his purpose is to break us loose from our comfortable situations (break up fallow ground) and get us ready (disking us) for what's coming against us in the near future (drought and famine). He is sounding the shofar to be ready to move as Ruach guides us. We need to be free of all encumberances and things that make us slaves to the world's system so that we can just move out when YHWH gives the command.

We are, generally speaking, too attached to our STUFF, which most of us don't own anyway (the bank or credit card company does). We are 'house and material poor', having bought more stuff that we could really afford to live 'the American Dream'. We need to minimalize so we can just pick up and leave. He will give us both the ability and the command to leave when the time comes. It's on us to make ready and listen for the command.

All that from the word moisture.

Luke also tells us of the seed that fell on the wayside and was 'trodden down'. This is seed that fell outside the field near the road and hence was trodden down. This ground was unplowed and the only seed that got ANY earth here was crushed under foot. I don't think this describes any of us, but I COULD be wrong about that.
