My lord asked his servants, saying, Have ye a father, or a brother?
There is deep significance to this question. Because it is the question we must ask ourselves and a question people must face if they are to be saved. We do have a Father in heaven and a brother in
Yahushuah. Here Yosef who models Messiah asks them to see if they indeed know. Through their transgressions they forsook both their Father by stealing his favorite son, and their brother by selling him off.
They transgressed and it was now being revealed to them and there was no way to not face up to it. They were not singing and dancing as their brother revealed himself to them.
Yosef; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence.
They were troubled because their sin was before them. Jesus is not my homeboy. We see many
references to Messiah and songs calling for his return as if our own sins we have done to the Father in heaven and to him once we say we are his will be water under the bridge. Though Josef may want this , even more I think he wants his brothers to have the fruit of their repentance and be changed.
It is not a question of whether YHWH can or will forgive us. He can do anything, but I think it is more pleasing for him to see that we are changed and have learned from our mistakes. This is necessary for real redemption to take place. Forgiveness and redemption are two different things.
Who is our brother? This is what we seek when we study our Torah, Who is our Father? We see him through his son, our brother. There is no way to the Father except through the Son. I said to my nephew who is a Christian, " how can you know him without knowing how he lived, and the torah." Through learning this we can actually learn what kind of person he is and our Father is.
There are many different ideas on what the Bible means, who Messiah is and what kind of person he is. As a matter of fact how he will act and what he will do is in great debate through many groups of organized religion. But all we have is the Scriptures to teach us so we can know who our brother really is. As we get to know him he can get to know us in how we get to know him. Examine your life and your bible study and don’t just scratch the surface, draw close and learn who your brother really is. So you aren’t standing before your Brother Yahushua and not knowing who he really is.
Then you can have an answer when Yahushua asks you if you have a Father or Brother?
Shalom
