One Way

For Parasha Chukat

By Lovingneighbor 7-1-2006

This weeks Parasha is in the book of Numbers also called Bamidbar, and is called Chukat which means 'Statute'. In this weeks parasha:

Last Weeks Parasha Review

The Story of this weeks Parasha:

  • The Red Heifer
  • Yisra'el Murmers against the Land
  • Water from the Rock
  • Aharon Dies on Mt Hor
  • Kenani Utterly Destroyed
  • People Murmer about Bread and Water
  • Fiery Serpents and the Nahushtan
  • Yisra'el destroys the Amori, and the Giants
  • Haftarah Yiftach holds onto what God gave Yisra'el

This Weeks Parasha Questions

How many ways can you be made clean from a dead body? One Way! The Red Heifer. Once you are made unclean by a dead body you cannot come into the temple until your cleansed with the water of purification made from the ashes of the Red Heifer sacrifice.

Why don't Moshe and Aharon get to go into the Promised land? Because they didn't bring water out of the rock the way God told them to. They did their own way.

Activity - One Way

In this activity you can either make a simple set of mazes and hand out to the children or print off the mazes from this website: http://www.billybear4kids.com/jigsaw-puzzles/Mazes/generator/generateMaze.shtml.

Hand them out and start counting to see who can get the maze done before time runs out. The teacher then explains that we all just like the children of Yisra'el have so much time of our testing and there is only one way to win and that is God's way, the more we try and go a different way then the way God has planned the more we may not get to the goal at all. Don't rebel and do it your way, just try and learn God's ways and do them.

Why did Yisra'el keep murmering? Because they didn't want God's ways they wanted to do things their way. They thought they had a better way so they complained.

Review Main Points

  • The Red Heifer
  • Yisra'el Murmers against the Land
  • Water from the Rock
  • Aharon Dies on Mt Hor
  • Kenani Utterly Destroyed
  • People Murmer about Bread and Water
  • Fiery Serpents and the Nahushtan
  • Yisra'el destroys the Amori, and the Giants
  • Haftarah Yiftach holds onto what God gave Yisra'el

Who can tell the story? Take one or two volunteers and have them tell the story of Parasha Chukat

Ask Questions Again How many ways can you be made clean from a dead body? Why don't Moshe and Aharon get to go into the promised land? Why did Yisra'el keep murmering?

A disciple should diligently search for the truth and humbly deny and reconsider it's possession.
