The goal of this section is to get everybody's studies, thoughts, and opinions on anything in the weeks parasha. This includes, word studies, thoughts on verses, history, related subjects, and anything that may help us to understand this Torah Portion. Even if it's just an observation on the smallest part, it can help others who may not have seen it that way. The goal is then as we visit the parasha (Torah Portion) each year we will create a collection of studies and thoughts on this portion and everyone will benefit by having a broader view of the portion. Shalom!
A disciple should diligently search for the truth and humbly deny and reconsider it's possession.

Thoughts by Verse Commentary
Parasha Ha'azinu
By Lovingneighbor
32:1 "Give ear" hearing or having ears to hear is the first witness. So as he says hear O heavens, and may the Earth hear my words is a call to receive and a verification that Moshe was the first witness. Later Messiah will use the phrase " truly I say unto you" which indicates he is the second witness or true witness as he is called in Revelations. The second witness establishes the matter or truth
32:3 "When I proclaim the Name of YHWH give greatness unto our God" I see this saying not to lift up Moshe but to give the glory to God. Religion has a big problem with this in that they lift up and respect the messenger instead of the one who sent him.
32:7 "remember the days of old" In this verse I see he is telling you two things , one is that we are to learn from the past, and two is that things of the past are relevant to today. This goes against the dispensation theory. In many ways he is saying the stories will repeat themselves unless you make different choices then they did.
32:8 " he divided their inheritance to the nations when he seperated the sons of adam." This may imply that the future of men was decided when cain was sent away and seth was born. When they were divide the inheritance was given.
32:9 " Ya'akov is the lot of His inheritance" Interesting if you think about it that Ya'akov or Yisra'el is the lot or portion of YHWH's inheritance. In some ways this is also saying that in Yisra'el will YHWH work, care for, protect, cultivate, and dwell. In the Earth this is where you'll find YHWH on his land.
32:10 " He found him in a desert land, an in the waste" this word in the waste is Tohu. The same tohu used in the beginning of Genesis known as without form. The imortant thing here is in relation to Yisra'el that God found him without form and empty and the spirit of God moved upon him and said let there be light, which by prov 6:23 that says the law is light it is as when God found Ya'akov and His spirit moved upon Yisra'el and said obey my Torah.
Also interesting to note is they are as the apple of his eye actually means pupil. This fits Yisra'el as we see later in this parasha that when it trouble they crie out to God but in fullness they reject Him. The pupil if there is a lack of light, in times of darkness opens to receive any light it can get, but when it's light it closes to take in less. Yisra'el in times of darkness seek more light or Torah, yet when they are surrounded by torah they close off to it.
32:11 " as an eagle stirreth up her nest fluttering of her young." Going back to the genesis account the word used here as flutter is raw kaph the same thing the Spirit of Elohim did over the face of the deep.
32:12 " YHWH alone did lead him" This seems to imply that there was no competition thus no violation of the first commandment and also that He was in submission only to God he had no other master.
32:15 "Then he forsook Elohim" I like what Sforno said about this verse that "when the great stray a little bit, the commoners fall into a steep decline." For this reason we thank Elohim both before and after meals, and one should always thank God once he blesses you and not forget because this unthankfulness is the start of straying from Elohim.
A disciple should diligently search for the truth and humbly deny and reconsider it's possession.

Judgment
For Parasha Ha'azinu
By Lovingneighbor 8-5-2006
This weeks Parasha is in the book of Deuteronomy also called Devarim, and is called Ha'azinu which means 'Give Ear'. In this weeks parasha:
- Moshe calls Heaven and Earth to witness
- He hopes his teaching will drop like rain and water the people
- YHWH is the rock, His work is perfect, His ways are judgment
- Yisra'el is crooked and perverse
- Learn from your fathers and the days of old
- He seperated you for His inheritance from the children of Adam
- He has blessed Yisra'el
- Once blessed Yisra'el turned from Him
- Yisra'el forgot who they were and went after other gods
- YHWH was angry and punished them
- All the people were punished
- Yisra'el didn't recognize it was not world doing it to them But YHWH for their unrighteousness
- YHWH shall judge His people
- The god they were worshipping was not God and could not save them
- He will bring vengeance to those who hate him
- It's all about teaching your children
- Moshe must go die on Mount Nevo
- Haftarah YHWH's prophecy of His return, delivery, and redemption of Yisra'el
This weeks parasha has some deep thoughts on a subject that is universal to all the points of this weeks portion. The concept is Judgment. This is the deciding point of all mens choices and will itself be what comes into judgment. Lets look at a description of YHWH:
Deu 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a Elohim of truth and without lawlessness, just and right is he.
This verse says "all His ways are Judgment. The word used here is Mishpawt meaning verdict. Let's look at how this weeks main points tie into judgment. First we have Moshe calling heaven and Earth to witness or hear what he is saying. Hearing comes through the gates we call ears. And as we learned a few parashas back we are to have just judges in all our gates.
Deu 16:18 Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which YHWH thy Elohim giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.
So he is asking them to judge what he is saying and bear witness of it. This is also a cry to the people who each have heaven and earth in them. The flesh and spirit of every person should judge the words he's about to say. He follows this up with telling them he hopes his teaching drops like rain and flows like dew. This is a way of saying he hopes the things he is teaching are absorbed and bring life to those who are hearing it.
Next he starts by proclaiming YHWH's ways are judgment. The way is the path, and more specifically the path to life and the path back to YHWH where we may dwell with Him. So the way to life is by judgment. This goes against the grain of teachings that your choices are irrelevant and Mesiiah did everything for us. Like we learned last week Life is merely a choice. He says I set before you life and death, choose life. Two paths, choose life. This is judgment. But our judgment is flawed. By using His judgment we are kept on the path. So as we study His word he reveals judgment to us so we may find our way Home. The judgment of the world leads you to death because that is all the world has to offer. But to those whom YHWH reveals himself they as it says are given two paths and He sets them before them and tells them which one they should choose. Oh what a blessing YHWH set before us life so that we might live.
Next point is that he says Yisra'el is crooked. Just like Moshe the first sign given to Yisra'el was the cast down who turned crooked as a serpent would be made straight by a messenger from God. His hand (Messiah) would take hold of them and make them straight and this would be a miracle in the eyes of the world. And His snake would devour the snake of the world or His people who were cast down would end up ruling over the sinful people of satan. There is heavy prophecy of Yisra'el and the plan of redemption and punishment to the crooked who are not God's people.
Next he tells them to learn from the days of old and previous generations. What are they learning. They are looking at the stories and learning what happend to the people based on their judgment. Choose as the righteous and not as the unrighteous.
Next is the blessing that comes to Yisra'el when they are using good judgment, but then they will forget Him once they are blessed. This also has to do with judgment because one of the components of a righteous judge is they are not to alter or change their judgment for a bribe or increase. This is coveting. Yisra'el is coveting the blessings of God and so once blessed they alter their judgment. This is one of the arguments and accusations of satan about Job that he only loved God because he blessed him. We are tested in two ways to see how true our judgment is. Will we have judgment in want and in plenty, and will we alter our judgment if something is taken or threatened to be taken from us an or for gain and if something is given or promised to be given if we disobey. 4 tests 2 are situations we are put in to see how it affects our judgment, and the other 2 are changes in position if we change our judgment. This is like a few weeks ago when we learned to guard the gates, from what was inside and what was outside.
The concept floating around that our judgment isn't relative because Messiah did it for us is rediculous. The next 3 points show that YHWH will judge His people for their judgment. As Messiah said:
2Pe 2:4 For if Elohim spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
2Pe 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
He teaches both Yisra'el and it's enemies how could they be defeated unless God had sold them.
Deu 32:30 How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and YHWH had shut them up?
So they weren't getting it was their own unrighteousness that led to this other nations coming aginst them, and the nations didn't get that the only reson they could prevail against Yisra'el is because they diobeyed their God. He is really teaching them judgment and that their judgment is the whole reason these things are happening to them.
As it says YHWH shall judge His people, and judgment starts in His house first. But if He judges His house how much more of those who do evil outside of His house. Judgment is like the letter of the law Given at Sinai, it is the first witness. just making the choice to follow God is a start, but then later it is spiritual judgment that is required. First learn to not physically murder your brother, but later learn to not even be angry with him without cause.
A unique look at judgment in the Torah will jump out at you. It is ussually used with two other words. Used about 250 times in the scriptures it is usually used with righteousness. Judgment and righteousness or Mishpawt and tsedakhah. They also seem to have an order about them the first being judgment the second being righteousness.
Isa 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of YHWH Tsebeoath will perform this.
It appears these are two witnesses establishing David's kingdom. It also models the two comings of Messiah first as prince of peace, then as King of Kings
Isa 32:1 Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment.
It is also noted as the wilderness and then the fruitfullness
Isa 32:16 Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field.
When used together you will gennerally get the concept of a king. One does not do away with the other but the second includes the first. Just as Moshe and the letter of the law are not done away with the spirit of the law, but included. When these two witnesses are combined they are used as descriptions of great leaders like Avraham, David, Solomon, and Ya'akov. Interesting the first use of the word judgment is with Avraham:
Gen 18:19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of YHWH, to do righteousness and judgment; that YHWH may bring upon Avraham that which he has spoken of him.
Notice it says Avraham's children shall keep the way of YHWH didn't duet 32:4 say his ways were judgment. So we see that Avraham was a man of Judgment and righteousness. Who else is this phrase used for next:
2Sa 8:15 And David reigned over all Yisra'el; and David executed judgment and righteousness unto all his people.
Next we have Solomon who was blessed because he asked for Judgment
1Ki 3:11 And Elohim said unto him, Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life; neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies; but have asked for yourself understanding to discern judgment;
Finally we have Ya'akov:
Psa 99:4 The king's strength also loves judgment; thou do establish equity, you executest judgment and righteousness in Ya'akov.
These are men established and great in the scriptures and they all have these traits. Lets compare this to modern day thoughts on righteousness and judgment even in the religions of Christianity and Torah abservants who downplay yht role of judgment and righteousness and say Messiah already did it for us or we only do it now because Messiah saved us already as if it was an afterthought:
Mal 2:17 Ye have wearied YHWH with your words. Yet you say, Wherein have we wearied him? When you say, Every one that does evil is good in the sight of YHWH, and he delights in them; then, Where is the Elohim of judgment?
Where is the Elohim of judgment and who will then judge the judgment of people. The theme of judgment and righteousness is one personal to us, yet the other word used with Judgment has a different application, it is the work mercy or kindness and compassion. When the phrase is generally used in non leadership role when dealing with our brother it is used with the word khesed mercy or kindness.
Zec 7:9 Thus speaketh YHWH Tsebeoath, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:
Mat 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
The problem is people can't seem to be righteous without trying to look down on their brother. When they should have compassion on them as they were once not righteous but Elohim was patient and merciful with them and their flaws.
YHWH wants you to keep judgment and do righteousness being established in both and to be called great in the kingdom of Heaven
Psa 106:3 Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.
It is progressive it starts with Judgment then leads to righteousness
Psa 94:15 But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.
YHWH wants to dwell with us and sit on the mighty throne we have created for him in our own holy habitation.
Psa 89:14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
To dwell with us and do us good, to bless us and keep us all our days but we must first create a throne for our mighty king through judgment and righteousness. So we may be like those who went before us just and righteous among the people. Shalom!

Ask Your Father
For Parasha Ha'Azinu
By Lovingneighbor 8-15-2007
This weeks Parasha is in the book of Devarim also called Deuteronomy, and is called Ha'azinu which means 'Give ear'.
Deu 32:7 Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.
In this weeks portion we have a strong underlying theme. It's a mixed bag of emotions the people must be feeling. They are finnaly getting the goal of the covenant and entering the promised land, and yet Moshe is going to die and they are warned that they will go after idolatry and be cursed and scattered. The verse above is a powerful statement encompasing the whole message. remember the days of old. As it says those things were written of for our benefit. Ask you father he will show you has a double meaning because in the previous verse it says is not He your father who has bought you. So the father here can be YHWH or also your natural father who it says later in this portion should teach all the commandments to their children
Deu 32:46 And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.
Deu 32:47 For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.
At the end of saying all his words he told them to teach it to their children. The words of truth are passed on from father to child generation after generation. If we are to desire to be a son of Elohim we must receive his Word. In this sense His son our messiah who is called the word must be received to be his child.
Mat 10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
How many people study torah enough. Asking the meaning of truth and life. Seeing the patterns that happened to their fathers and learning from it what not to do and what to teach to their children. People can't remember the days of old(ie the Torah) because they don't know it. They don't study it. They have not asked the questions of their fathers because they are not observing their lives to have questions. What elders have told them the messages. They seek not counsel from the wise in the scriptures. It is not a vain thing for you to study and teach your children. It is your life. Shalom!
A disciple should diligently search for the truth and humbly deny and reconsider it's possession.
