B'reisheet "In The Beginning"
Gen 1:1 - 6:8 , Isaiah 42:5 - 43:11
Reader 1 (Evening Portion)
Gen 1:1 In the beginning Elohim created the heaven and the earth.
Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of Elohim moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen 1:3 And Elohim said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Gen 1:4 And Elohim saw the light, that it was good: and Elohim divided the light from the darkness.
Gen 1:5 And Elohim called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Gen 1:6 And Elohim said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
Gen 1:7 And Elohim made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
Gen 1:8 And Elohim called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
Gen 1:9 And Elohim said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
Gen 1:10 And Elohim called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called He Seas: and Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:11 And Elohim said, Let the earth bring forth tender sprouts, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:12 And the earth brought forth tender sprouts, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
Gen 1:14 And Elohim said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Gen 1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:16 And Elohim made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night the stars also.
Gen 1:17 And Elohim set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
Gen 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
(Morning Portion)
Gen 1:20 And Elohim said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
Gen 1:21 And Elohim created great sea serpent, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:22 And Elohim blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
Gen 1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
Gen 1:24 And Elohim said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
Gen 1:25 And Elohim made the animals of the earth after his kind, and beasts after their kind, and every thing that creeps upon the earth after his kind: and Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:26 And Elohim said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the beasts, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.
Gen 1:27 So Elohim created man in His own image, in the image of Elohim created He him; male and female created He them.
Gen 1:28 And Elohim blessed them, and Elohim said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.
Gen 1:29 And Elohim said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food.
Gen 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creeps upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for food: and it was so.
Gen 1:31 And Elohim saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day Elohim ended his work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.
Gen 2:3 And Elohim blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all his work which Elohim created and made.
Reader 2 (Evening Portion)
Gen 2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that YHWH Elohim made the earth and the heavens,
Gen 2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for YHWH Elohim had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
Gen 2:6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
Gen 2:7 And YHWH Elohim formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Gen 2:8 And YHWH Elohim planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
Gen 2:9 And out of the ground made YHWH Elohim to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Gen 2:10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it was parted, and became into four heads.
Gen 2:11 The name of the first is Pishon: that is it which compasses the whole land of Chavilah, where there is gold;
Gen 2:12 And the gold of that land is good: there is aromatic resin and the shoham stone.
Gen 2:13 And the name of the second river is Gichon: the same is it that compasses the whole land of Kush.
Gen 2:14 And the name of the third river is Chiddekel: that is it which goes toward the east of Ashur. And the fourth river is Perat.
(Morning Portion)
Gen 2:15 And YHWH Elohim took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Gen 2:16 And YHWH Elohim commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat:
Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die.
Gen 2:18 And YHWH Elohim said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.
Gen 2:19 And out of the ground YHWH Elohim formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
Reader 3 (Evening Portion)
Gen 2:20 And Adam gave names to all beasts, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a help meet for him.
Gen 2:21 And YHWH Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
Gen 2:22 And the rib, which YHWH Elohim had taken from man, made He a woman, and brought her unto the man.
Gen 2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Gen 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Gen 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which YHWH Elohim had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, has Elohim said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Gen 3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
Gen 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, Elohim has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.
Gen 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, You shall not surely die:
Gen 3:5 For Elohim does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as Elohim, knowing good and evil.
Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Gen 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
(Morning Portion)
Gen 3:8 And they heard the voice of YHWH Elohim walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of YHWH Elohim among the trees of the garden.
Gen 3:9 And YHWH Elohim called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where are you?
Gen 3:10 And he said, I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
Gen 3:11 And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded you that you should not eat?
Gen 3:12 And the man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
Gen 3:13 And YHWH Elohim said unto the woman, What is this that you have done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
Gen 3:14 And YHWH Elohim said unto the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life:
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.
Gen 3:16 Unto the woman He said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow you shall bring forth children; and your desire to be over your husband, he shall rule over you.
Gen 3:17 And unto Adam He said, Because you have hearkened unto the voice of you wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life;
Gen 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to you; and you shall eat the herb of the field;
Gen 3:19 In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, till you return unto the ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust you are, and unto dust shall you return.
Gen 3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Chavah; because she was the mother of all living.
Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did YHWH Elohim make coats of skins, and clothed them.
Reader 4 (Evening Portion)
Gen 3:22 And YHWH Elohim said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever:
Gen 3:23 Therefore YHWH Elohim sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from where he was taken.
Gen 3:24 So He drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the garden of Eden Keruvim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Gen 4:1 And Adam knew Chavah his wife; and she conceived, and bore Kayin, and said, I have gotten a man from YHWH.
Gen 4:2 And she again bore his brother Hevel. And Hevel was a keeper of sheep, but Kayin was a tiller of the ground.
Gen 4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Kayin brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto YHWH.
Gen 4:4 And Hevel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And YHWH had respect unto Hevel and to his offering:
Gen 4:5 But unto Kayin and to his offering he had not respect. And Kayin was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
Gen 4:6 And YHWH said unto Kayin, Why are you wroth? and why is your countenance fallen?
Gen 4:7 If you do well, shall you not be accepted? and if you do not well, sin lies at the door. And unto you shall be his desire, and you shall rule over him.
Gen 4:8 And Kayin talked with Hevel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Kayin rose up against Hevel his brother, and slew him.
Gen 4:9 And YHWH said unto Kayin, Where is Hevel your brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
Gen 4:10 And He said, What have you done? the voice of your brother's blood cries unto me from the ground.
(Morning Portion)
Gen 4:11 And now are you cursed from the earth, which has opened her mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand;
Gen 4:12 When you till the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto you her strength;to and fro shall you wander in the earth.
Gen 4:13 And Kayin said unto YHWH, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
Gen 4:14 Behold, you have driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from your face shall I be hid; and I shall be to and fro a wanderer in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that finds me shall slay me.
Gen 4:15 And YHWH said unto him, Therefore whosoever slays Kayin, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And YHWH set a mark upon Kayin, lest any finding him should kill him.
Gen 4:16 And Kayin went out from the presence of YHWH, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
Reader 5 (Evening Portion)
Gen 4:17 And Kayin knew his wife; and she conceived, and bore Chanokh: and he built a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Chanokh.
Gen 4:18 And unto Chanokh was born Irad: and Irad begot Mechuya'el: and Mechuya'el begot Metusha'el: and Metusha'el begot Lamekh.
(Morning Portion)
Gen 4:19 And Lamekh took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Tzillah.
Gen 4:20 And Adah bore Yaval: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
Gen 4:21 And his brother's name was Yuval: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
Gen 4:22 And Tzillah, she also bore Tuval-Kayin, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tuval-Kayin was Na'amah.
Gen 4:23 And Lamekh said unto his wives, Adah and Tzillah, Hear my voice; you wives of Lamekh, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
Gen 4:24 If Kayin shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamekh seventy and sevenfold.
Reader 6 (6th Day Evening Portion)
Gen 4:25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bore a son, and called his name Shet: For Elohim, said she, has appointed me another seed instead of Hevel, whom Kayin slew.
Gen 4:26 And to Shet, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enosh: then began men to call upon the name of YHWH.
Gen 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that Elohim created man, in the likeness of Elohim made He him;
Gen 5:2 Male and female created He them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
Gen 5:3 And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Shet:

Gen 5:23 And all the days of Chanokh were three hundred sixty and five years:
Gen 5:24 And Chanokh walked with Elohim: and he was not; for Elohim took him.

Gen 5:30 And Lamekh lived after he begot Noach five hundred ninety and five years, and begot sons and daughters:
Gen 5:31 And all the days of Lamekh were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.
Reader 7 (6th Day Morning Portion)
Gen 5:32 And Noach was five hundred years old: and Noach begot Shem, Cham, and Yefet.
Gen 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
Gen 6:2 That the sons of Elohim saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
Gen 6:3 And YHWH said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.
Gen 6:4 The Nefilim in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of Elohim came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
Gen 6:5 And Elohim saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Gen 6:8 But Noach found favor in the eyes of YHWH.
Haftarah (Shabbat Evening Portion)
Isa 42:5 Thus saith Elohim YHWH, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; He that spread forth the earth, and that which comes out of it; He that gives breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
Isa 42:6 I YHWH have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and give you for a covenant of the people, for a light of the nations;
Isa 42:7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
Isa 42:8 I am YHWH: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
Isa 42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
Isa 42:10 Sing unto YHWH a new song, and His praise from the end of the earth, you that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
Isa 42:11 Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar does inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
Isa 42:12 Let them give glory unto YHWH, and declare His praise in the islands.
Isa 42:13 YHWH shall go forth as a mighty man, He shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: He shall cry, yea, roar; He shall prevail against his enemies.
Isa 42:14 I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.
Isa 42:15 I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.
Isa 42:16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.
Isa 42:17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, You are our Elohim.
Isa 42:18 Hear, you deaf; and look, you blind, that you may see.
Isa 42:19 Who is blind, certainly not my servant? a deaf messenger is cast out? who is blind yet perfect, blind and YHWH's servant?
Isa 42:20 Seeing many things, but you observe not; opening the ears, but he hears not.
Isa 42:21 YHWH is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; He will magnify the law, and make it honorable.
Isa 42:22 But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivers; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.
Isa 42:23 Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come?
Isa 42:24 Who gave Ya'akov for a spoil, and Yisra'el to the robbers? did not YHWH, He against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in His ways, neither were they obedient unto His law.
Isa 42:25 Therefore He has poured upon him the fury of His anger, and the strength of battle: and it has set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
Isa 43:1 But now thus saith YHWH that created you, O Ya'akov, and He that formed you, O Yisra'el, Fear not: for I have redeemed you, I have called you by your name; you are mine.
Isa 43:2 When you passed through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon you.
Isa 43:3 For I am YHWH your Elohim, the Holy One of Yisra'el, your Savior: I gave Egypt for your ransom, Kush and Seva for you.
Isa 43:4 Since you were precious in my sight, you have been honorable, and I have loved you: therefore will I give men for you, and people for your life.
Isa 43:5 Fear not: for I am with you: I will bring your seed from the east, and gather you from the west;
Isa 43:6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;
Isa 43:7 every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
Isa 43:8 Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.
Isa 43:9 Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and show us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth.
Isa 43:10 You are my witnesses, saith YHWH, and my servant whom I have chosen: that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am He: before me there was no Elohim formed, neither shall there be after me.
Isa 43:11 I, even I, am YHWH; and beside me there is no savior.
