Revealed - For those who can see
Revealed
For Parasha Miketz
By Lovingneighbor 12-23-2006
This weeks Parasha is the 10th parasha in the book of Genesis also called B'reisheet, and is called Miketz which means 'At the end'. In this weeks parasha:
- 2 years later Pharaoh dreamed of 7 fat heifers coming out of a river and 7 lean ones that ate the 7 fat ones
- Pharaoh had a 2nd dream 7 good heads of grain on one stalk and 7 bad ones came and ate the 7 good ones
- Pharaoh called all his wise men but they couldn't tell him what it meant
- Then the cupbearer remembered Yosef and Pharaoh sent for Yosef to come to him from prison
- Pharaoh said I heard you can interpret dreams and Yosef said not me but Elohim and Pharaoh told him his 2 dreams
- Yosef told Pharaoh the 2 dreams were one and that 7 good years are coming then 7 years of famine
- Yosef told Pharaoh to appoint a man over Egypt to store up 20% of the grains from the 7 good years so they will have grain during the 7 bad years
- Pharaoh put Yosef in charge and gave him great power in Egypt and gave him Asenat for a wife
- Yosef Stored up the grain and had 2 sons before the famine one whose name was Menasheh and the 2nd was named Efrayim
- The famine came and all the people went to Yosef for Food
- Ya'akov sent all of his sons except Benyamin to Egypt to buy grain
- Yosef's brothers came and bowed before him not knowing who he was and asking for grain but he dealt harsh with them
- Yosef accused them of being spies and threw them all in prison for 3 days saying they needed to bring their youngest brother back to Egypt
- Yosef told them to go take food to their family and leave one brother in prison until they return with their youngest brother
- Yosef commanded their sacks to be filled and their money put inside and when they found it on the way home they were afraid
- When they returned they told Ya'akov all that happened but he wouldn't let them take Benyamin and return
- When they ran out of food they had to go again to Egypt so they took Benyamin, double money and gifts and went
- Yosef told his servants to prepare a meal and his brothers were brought into his house and they were afraid
- They told Yosef's servant that they found their money again in their sacks and he told them not to worry
- When Yosef came his brothers still not knowing who he was bowed down and offered gifts to him
- Once Yosef saw his brother Benyamin he went to another room and cried then washed his face and returned to them
- Yosef set them in order at the table from oldest to youngest and gave Benyamin five times as much as the others
- Yosef commanded that their sacks be filled and their money put in the sacks and his cup put in the youngest's sack
- Once they left to return home Yosef sent a servant to catch them and ask why they took his cup
- They said let him die and us be your servants if the cup be found among us and they searched and it was in Benyamin's sack
- They returned to Yosef and bowed down saying what can we say Elohim has found out our lawlessness and Yosef said leave - Benyamin and go home
- Haftarah Shlomo shows his wisdom by solving a dispute between two woman over a child
In this weeks parasha we have a common theme of things being revealed. This may sound simple but the fact is that the pattern is that even the great ruler of the time was not able to understand what Elohim was saying and neither was all the supposedly wise men of the time who were the main ones giving advice. We see this in modern religion. A few people are giving the advice to others but when it comes down to it they don't understand the things of Elohim. Mashiach said this also to Nicodemus who was a great teacher in Yisra'el and asked why he didn't understand the spiritual things. Pharaoh had a dream given by Elohim but didn't understand it. This is like the many people who all have a bible and yet may not understand what they have. The fact is that Elohim has chosen certain people to be able to interpret his things and usually the pattern is they are not accepted by their own people like Yosef who was cast out for his dreams and the implication of what they might mean. Mashiach also I believe was cast out for his interpretation of the word of Elohim by the accepted religous people of the day who thought they had it all figured out. But like Pharaoh who had something from Elohim it was not worth much without the interpretation. The scripture says this about parables which are a type of similitude or story that's key message is hidden beneath the surface and embedded in the meaning of the parts.
Pro 26:7 The legs of the lame are not useful: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
Without the interpretation the dream was just a nice little story. The wise men could ponder and guess and make up meanings that the king may want to hear but there is an actual truth to all the parts and just like Mashiach he replaced the words with their spiritual counterparts or ramez definitions and then the meaning could be found. The spiritual definitions act as the second witness and make the original story make much more sense. You would be hard pressed to get the interpretation from the story only and even if you could you could come up with many variations that are unprovable. The Second witness though, the spirit of the story is not so easily confused. This follows the pattern of all of Mashiach's teachings where it says he taught in parables and this is how he spoke. He later gave the interpretation or ramez definitions later to the disciples who wanted more than the surface story. Thus the revelation only came from drawing closer to Mashiach and questioning which I translate as studying the text. To those it will be revealed.
The dream came twice so it had two witnesses on the surface level the fat heifers and the fat heads of grain, and the thin heifers and thin heads of grain. So in this pattern the heifers are equal to the heads of grain. This also teaches us that the surface stories in the bible will have two witnesses in the text. This is why patterns are to be watched for like Mashiach and the pattern of Passover. The lamb and Mashiach follow a pattern. Prophecy usually comes to us in a form of a dream or story that must be figured out what the alternate meaning is or th this equals that. People have guessed at what is what in prophecy for hundreds of years but are usually wrong. They are like the wise men of Egypt who can be compared to the wisdom of the world. Yet in Yosef's case he had one interpretation the heifers and heads of grain which was the two witnesses of the story were equal as he says the two dreams are one. they equal each other. The heifers and the heads of grain are years. So this is basic algebra if a = b and b = c then a = c also. they are one. Also interesting to note is that the two dreams are said to be one which is the Hebrew word echad. Well many people have all kind of meanings for the phases I and the Father are one. Notice here though that th two different and separate dreams are not the same but they are one. They both hold the same meaning. They have a common thing though they are different. This is hard for some to see. It didn't say the Father is the son, it says they are echad. They have the same spirit. Here the Heifers and heads of grain both share the same spiritual definition, years.
Next we see the years of plenty were to be a blessing and they blessing from those years would be put aside until later when the famine came and then would be blessing in th future preserving all people. What else happened in the years of plenty. Yosef joined to Asenat and two sons, Efrayim and Menasheh. Asenat was daughter of a pagan priest. So Yosef was joined to the Egyptian woman which is in my opinion a model of Yisra'el joining to the ways of the world. The result was children who like the prophecy of Hoshea who was to sleep with and be joined to the harlot would have children, lo ammi (not my people) and Loruchamah(No mercy) the prophecies of scattered Yisra'el who would one day be brought back. Yahushua son of Nun was also called Hoshea and was a model of Mashiach I believe as was Yosef who joined to this Egyptian woman and had two sons. These sons were part of the years of plenty and blessing and I believe would be set aside and hidden until the time of famine or end times as this weeks parasha is named Miketz meaning at the end also used to describe the flood, and the end of testing in the wilderness and many other end times for Yisra'el. These sons were set apart until the end and then would be revealed and would help save everyone in the last days who were starving from not having the seed or word of Elohim. So I don't think it is a coincidence that Efrayim and Menasheh and Asenat are given in the years of plenty.
Next you have all the brothers who rejected him for his visions originally coming and asking him in the end for seed or the word of Elohim. But they wer dealt with roughly. This reminds me of when the pharisees came to Yochanan or John asking to be baptized but he sent them back to bring fruit worthy of repentance. Is this a model of Benyamin. Shall they return to their father ie the torah and bring back fruit worthy of repentance. This is a changed spirit. Benyamin means son of the right hand. The right hand is usually associated with Mashiach and the first five commandments about loving Elohim vs. loving man. One is spiritual and the other is earthly. How was Benyamin born. Through the death of his mother. The death of the lamb as Rachel means Ewe. Dying to the flesh as Paul says for the followers of Mashiach was to bring forth life of the spirit. Notice for their test they had to return to their father and bring back their brother Benyamin. The word for rough is the same word used for hard in Rachel having hard labor. The later use is Yosef who spoke roughly to them. So it appears that going from the earthly or fleshly to the spiritual is a hard and rough road. And who is the one who will cause you to do this. Yosef the one who saw the unseen things of Elohim that you originally rejected. Even the earthly ie Pharaoh believed him before his own family. We see this with Mashiach and the roman soldier. He said oh that there were such faith in Yisra'el.
He tested them and the returned with gifts? gift worthy of repentance? I think so. Then he tested them again but before he did he set them in natural order from first to last and gave the biggest blessing to Benyamin the last. Which I think is a model of him showing them that the last shall be first. Again he returns them to his his father but meets them and one of them has his cup which I think represents the teaching as wine is compared to doctrine. They all had the word of Elohim ie the seed but one of them had the cup ie the ability to see the spirit of torah or having the cup of Yosef who was able to see the spirit of torah and interpret the meanings of Elohim's things. This confirms in my opinion the fact that the chosen is the one who can find the spirit of torah in the text not just have the surface knowledge. Just as Pharaoh had the surface story but could not find the spirit of it was actually made lower in a sense by promoting Yosef over all things. He only retained the throne. This pattern fits the blessing to Benyamin and the switching of the hands for blessings on Efrayim from Menasheh the first born. The last shall be first. and the spirit is revealed by the least in the eyes of people. Yosef was in prison and a slave, yosef most loved was cast out by his brethren, Benyamin also loved by his father was least and yet given the biggest blessing. As a matter of fact the goal was to be as those who were blessed the greatest but people won't humble themselves and will reject words from people they perceive not as good or smart as them. In the end (miketz) it will be them who come to the humble who see the spirit of Elohim and Torah and they will help the same people who ridiculed them and tried to destroy them. They were the blessing given first that remained hidden until the time of trouble. In the end they will flourish and the others will finally see who they really are.
Yosef as they admitted found out their lawlessness and they finally admitted it. Also in the story of Shlomo we see that two seemed similar and in the end the true one who was willing to suffer for the sake of the child was eventually rewarded and in the end the truth will be revealed and we will know who is who. Like the wheat and tares it will be revealed in the end. Wives can learn from this also because it is not that both were woman and on the surface looked as if they could be the mother, but the heart of their actions and willingness to suffer loss to do what is right revealed their heart. How also a woman should love and serve her husband even to the point of suffering so that her rightful position of his wife will be known to all. Shalom!
A disciple should diligently search for the truth and humbly deny and reconsider it's possession.
