For our Children
For Parasha Bo
By Lovingneighbor 1-12-2008

This weeks Parasha is in the book of Exodus also called Shemot, and is called Bo which means 'Come'. In this weeks parasha:

- Moshe and Aharon told Par'oh if he wouldn't humble himself they would bring a plague of locusts
- Par'oh told Moshe and Aharon that Yisra'el could go but only the men
- Moshe stretched out his rod and brought forth locusts
- Par'oh pleaded with Moshe and Aharon to take away the locusts and he would let them go but he didn't
- Moshe stretched out his hand and brought darkness
- Par'oh tells Moshe Yisra'el may go but they must leave their flocks and herds but Moshe said no
- Par'oh tells Moshe to leave because if he sees him again he will kill him
- YHWH says he will bring one more plague then Par'oh will let them go and to ask of jewels from the Egyptians
- Moshe tells Par'oh YHWH will smite the firstborn of Egypt and Par'oh's servants will come to him saying get out
- YHWH tells Moshe on the tenth of the month every man shall take a lamb for their house
- Your lamb you select shall be without blemish
- You shall kill it at evening on the 14th and strike the blood on the 2 side posts and top of your door
- You shall eat it roast by fire and anything that remains until morning you shall burn with fire
- You shall eat it with your loins girded, shoes on your feet, and staff in your hand it is a memorial forever
- For 7 days you shall not have or eat any leaven the 1st and 7th day are holy rehearsals
- Moshe said kill the passover and take Hyssop and dip it in the blood and strike it to your 2 side posts and the top of your door
- When your children ask you shall tell them we keep this service because YHWH passed over us and brought us out of Egypt
- At midnight YHWH smote the firstborn of Egypt and there was a great cry in Egypt
- Par'oh sent a message to Moshe and Aharon saying get out and take all that is yours and they spoiled the Egyptians also
- After 430 years in Egypt Yisra'el went out from Ra'meses to Sukkot
- YHWH commanded that no stranger shall eat the passover but that all servants or sojourners that will eat must be circumcised
- YHWH said sanctify to me all the firstborn of man and beast and remember the passover
- You shall show your sons the sign on your hand and tell them how YHWH brought us out of Egypt by a strong hand
- Haftarah - YHWH will punish Egypt but will save Yisra'el though they also shall have punishment

In this weeks parasha I have found a common theme and it has been weird in how I came to it. As I was working on tidying up a former parasha I came to the section in parasha Shemot where Par'oh told the Hebrew midwives to kill the male children. This got me thinking about how people in China were regulated from having children because of the population. So I went online to see how many abortions they had, the result was that since they started the law for family regulation the abortion rate has been steadily increasing every year. to the tune of 106,000 abortions a year or more occuring from about 10,000. This loss of life was stagering and I went further to see what it compared to in the US. The number was even more disturbing. 1.3 million abortions in America a year. It seems Par'oh in model was succeeding in killing the children. Where are Shifrah and Pu'ah. I think that these two were concerned about not killing the children of the Hebrews. Their name and spirit should be alive today. Activism is the key to stopping this or some of this from occuring. Just because the government says it's OK does not mean we should not do something to stop it.

It appears that as the second verse says about the punishments on Egypt that they were so that we could teach our children.

Exo 10:1 And YHWH said unto Moshe, Go in unto Par'oh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might show these my signs before him:
Exo 10:2 And that you may tell in the ears of your son, and of your son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know how that I am YHWH.

So we look at one of the reasons that the plagues came upon Par'oh and we see that his punishment was a process of signs and wonders to be told to our children so that we would know He is YHWH.

Notice the last and greatest plague was the death of the firstborn of Egypt. Even Par'oh and Egypt saw this as the greatest plague and yet people in America and all over the world freely kill their children by the millions every year. Where is the cry of Egypt? Where are the cries of the people. We count a plague of death as freedom of choice while millions of children die defenseless because the one who was supposed to protect them is the one murdering them. This is just like when the Hebrews went to tell Par'oh that they were beaten for not making enough bricks but that they didn't have the straw. They then realized that the one who was supposed to protect them that was in authority over them was the one who was causing them harm. Even Yisra'el recognized this and I think this was a factor in them wanting to leave. But at least they after knowing their master was the one trying to harm them could try and leave, but where can a baby go. Can they escape the womb? The only help they have is us and Elohim. I encourage you to find out how you can help stop abortion. For our children.

This goes to the second key verse which is where Par'oh asks who will go with Moshe if he let's them go.

Exo 10:8 And Moshe and Aharon were brought again unto Par'oh: and he said unto them, Go, serve YHWH your Elohim: but who are they that shall go?
Exo 10:9 And Moshe said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for a feast unto YHWH.

There are alot of interesting things going on in this sentence. The word Go is hawlak in the Hebrew spelled hay lamed chaf which in the ancient Hebrew could mean reveal teaching allow this makes the word halak which is where we get the word halacha which literally means to walk. In the Jewish mindset halacha are the rules of how we carry out the teachings or how we walk out the commandments. Let's look at this sentence in verse 8 and 9. Here is where the words in Hebrew Are

Exo 10:8 And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go(hawlak), serve YHWH your Elohim: but who are they that shall go(hawlak)?
Exo 10:9 And Moses said, We will go(hawlak) with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go(hawlak); for a feast unto YHWH.

In some translations we see the phrase for 'we must hold' a feast to YHWH. the section we must hold is not in the text and slightly changes the meaning of the sentence in my opinion. Without it the sentences from 8 tell us more. It could be interpreted that Par'oh is also saying hawlak or observe specifically and serve YHWH, and then asks who will hawlak and the answer is all in Yisra'el will hawlak. They will all do and carry out specifically the will of Elohim. The phrase "I keep Torah very specifically" could be understood in this same sense as one who walks out Torah exactly as they were instructed. Mashiach can say this.

For a feast unto YHWH could then also be understood as the whole keeping of Torah as one large feast or more specifically this is about the passover feast whose hawlak or halacha is described in the very next portion of the text. This may also imply that the feast halacha started even with th plagues on Par'oh leading up to the exodus. So what does it mean that all will hawlak. Is this the pattern of the true final event and Pesach where all Yisra'el will observe it. Does it mean over time all will observe it in their lives? Does it mean that everyone is playing a role in a great exodus and some may be Egyptians and others Hebrews? Or does it also imply that we all must do the Torah specifically to be able to really come out of Egypt?

If you look at the question Par'oh asks, and then says only the men shall hawlak. Do we see this today in the communities and religions. Where the men teach other mena dn argue over how to hawlak or walk the word of Elohim, forgetting the women, and the children, and all they have. I see this all over. They will not leave until their wives and children hawlak. This goes to the root of why YHWH said he chose Avraham because he said he knew he would command his children to keep and do the Torah. So this message is about learning the Torah and focusing on the specifics of how to walk the Torah out. But many men make this their whole goal and then forget that it is so that you may teach your wife and children to walk them out. many men confuse the new knowledge like food they found in a hunt and then sat down to share it with other men while their family starves to death. We must learn and study so we may walk and teach out family to walk the Torah which is walking out of Egypt or the ways of the world. A good husband and father will not walk out without his family. Moshe would not leave until they were all walking out with him. This took time for both Par'oh and Yisra'el and goes to the core of each bayith or house that needed the blood of the lamb. If a house didn't have it the whole house would be in danger, but if that house had the blood everyone in it was safe.

Don't forget your household. Don't wander the streets painting others doorposts while your own is not painted. Don't leavc your wife and kids outside while you invite others into your house. You need to walk with your wife and children and teach them to care for other children whose parents are doing them harm, so your whole household can come out of Egypt.Shalom!
A disciple should diligently search for the truth and humbly deny and reconsider it's possession.
