and let Japheth dwell in the tents of Shem
I always wondered the significance of the following prophetic message by Noah:
"May God extend Japheth, And let him dwell in the tents of Shem
" (Gen 9:27)
And i think i finally understand it's fulfillment. Japheth is the father of Europe basically. Shem is the father of Semitic peoples, the jewish people, and ultimately the line of Jesus Christ.
Shem also means "name" in hebrew. Shem, in modern day judaism, is expressed as HaShem or "The Name" which they use to mean God.
And we all know that the Name above every name is Jesus.
So Japheth dwelling in the tents of Shem, means, in my understanding, Europe dwelling under the house (authority/protection) of Jesus Christ, it is either that of under the Jewish people (which could be seen as true depending how one sees it). And i think historically this is true, since AFTER the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Europe was one of the earliest converts to Christianity (and still remains in a loose sense), the Catholic church, from which christianity subsequently was spread all over the world.
Interestingly "Japheth" also derives from the root which means "short breath" (either inhaling or exhaling). And the blessing above was to "extend" this "short breath". I am wondering if the significance of this is that Europe will not last, mainly because they will fall away from the house of Jesus Christ, which is happening right now.....
Any how, i thought the possibility was very interesting.
